The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type Could Fix That

As any prominent prize-giving event approaches, there’s always a demand to include fresh award types to honor underappreciated efforts and satisfy the hearts of fans dedicated to specific genres.

My colleague previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. That would rule. So would tabletop games, representing a dedicated supporter's campaign. However, I must insist if I try to elbow in front since similar to dedicated enthusiasts, there's a strong justification backing this proposal remains most pressing and important of all. The demand is this: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Categorizing Game Types

Categorizing art by genre defies precise measurement; it’s very subjective, and inevitably generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that film award organizations don’t do it. However, it represents an unavoidable compromise for the industry of interactive entertainment, which are so diverse they barely qualify as a single art form.

For the full spectrum of achievement in video games to be recognized, while allowing diverse titles to receive proper recognition, specific award classifications remain vital.

Present Award Structure

The major gaming awards presently include genre categories for Action, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these award types actually cover a lot of ground, making space possible accommodating various experiences.

Different situation exists for logic-based experiences. No appropriate category exists to put them. Think about these recent excellent titles, each quite distinct: building puzzles in a particular game, the pulse-pounding block-matching in a different title, thought-provoking social scenarios of a third title. What category would fit them among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.

Acknowledgment Issues

Many instances occur outstanding logic titles published annually without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, unless they happen to qualify award groups including Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, or the intensely contested small studio competitions.

  • An iconic brain-teaser received no recognition completely that year
  • Another imaginative release received no nominations in 2019
  • Well-received sorting experience received no acknowledgment in 2021
  • Just some puzzle games scraped into independent or mobile categories

Significance of Puzzle Games

Commonly they're small games, yet the craft behind logic titles carries substantial weight. Iconic mobile puzzle games rank among most popular titles in the world maintaining this status for an extended period.

The iconic tile-matching title rivals famous sandbox experiences for the title of best-selling game of all time; it additionally competes for best game of all time. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks to the art of video games, while interacting across multiple categories.

Proposal and Rationale

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter such difficulty. One could readily select a field of five interesting, varied, worthy titles annually without trouble — actually, with challenge, because you’d have to leave so many good games out.

Restating the point, these are games that otherwise have no home during prominent ceremonies. Puzzle game makers operate at the challenging frontier game development, producing among essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Similar to cinema stunt performers, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting generations.
